Korean hangs self after losing P 20 M

A Korean tourist reportedly claimed his own life by hanging himself after losing P20 million at a casino in Malate, Manila before shortly after midnight Tuesday.

The victim, 30-year-old Hyun Jin Do, temporarily residing at Admiral Bay Suites at 2138 Aldecoa Street, was found hanging by his friend Sang Sik Yang and driver Artnulfo Atok, Jr. in their room’s balcony about 12:13 a.m.

PO3 Marlon San Pedro of the Manila Police District Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section said the Korean tourists arrived in the country on June 14 and hired Atok as their personal driver.

However, last Monday morning, it was only Sik Yang who joined Atok and when they got home about 11:30 p.m., the victim was not responding to their calls to open the door, so they sought assistance from hotel personnel.

It was then that they discovered the victim already lifeless.

Atok said that the two were fond of playing at the casino, and that the victim told him that he had lost P20 million.

“He was sidelined inside the said suites from July 28 to 29 before he went out again on July 30,” San Pedro said. (Jaimie Rose Aberia)

2 men died in QC shootings

Critical gunshot wounds caused the instant death of two men in separate shooting incidents perpetrated by unidentified armed suspects in Quezon City Monday night.

In Barangay Commonwealth, a 53-year-old engineer identified as Maximo Gonzales was shot twice in his head while inside his car in front of a commercial building along Payatas Road.

Initial investigation showed that Gonzales was preparing to go home from work at about 7:30 p.m. when the still unidentified assailant fired at his vehicle and shot him twice in the head.

A security guard manning his post nearby the area heard five successive gunshots and upon verifying, saw Gonzales’ lifeless body behind the steering wheel.

Authorities recovered pieces of spent shells of caliber .45 in the scene.

Four hours later, another shootout occurred at Barangay Holy Spirit where the victim was repeatedly shot to death by three men wearing face masks in front of a billiard hall along Area 6, Nawasa Road.

The slain victim identified as John Paul Olangca, 29, sustained multiple gunshot wounds causing his sudden death.

Prior to the incident, Olangca was talking with his colleague in front of Clarence Billiard at about 11:30 p.m. when they saw a violet van without a plate number pass by.

Investigation showed that the victim and his cohort noticed the three men all clad in jackets and wearing face masks alighted the vehicle and walk towards their direction.

Upon approaching them, one of the men pulled out his handgun and fired successive gunshots at Olongca, prompting the victim’s colleague to run away.

PO3 Roldan Cornejo said that a witness saw the assailants blocking a white van to use as their getaway vehicle because they could not start the violet van they first used.

The witnesses who saw Olangca’s bullet-riddled body slumped to the ground rushed him to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
