Ex-barangay chair gunned down in Navotas

A former barangay chairman on his way home from work was gunned down by men riding a motorcycle in Navotas City early Thursday morning.

Police identified the former barangay chairman as Bernildo Ocampo, 64, businessman, of Barangay San Roque, Navotas City.

Ocampo and his 36-year-old companion Rodolfo Maoricio Jr., came from their fishing business in Malabon and were traversing Naval Steeet on board a motorcycle when the men appeared and shot them, around 3:20 a.m.

Reports said that the gunmen then sped off.

Ocampo and Maoricio were rushed to Tondo Medical Hospital where Ocampo was declared dead on arrival while Maoricio is still unconscious and under observation.

Relatives of Ocampo and Maoricio said that both were not involved in any illegal activities and had no known enemy. (Kate Louise Javier)

Man on drug watch list arrested by police

A man on the drug watch list was arrested Thursday by elements of the Manila Police District Station 6 in Sta. Ana, Manila.

Police arrested suspect Danilo Santos, 57, of 1622 Estrada Street, San Andres Bukid, Manila.

Initial investigation revealed that Station Drug Enforcement Units conducted a buy-bust operation in an alley located along Estrada St. in San Andres Bukid on Wednesday.

Authorities then bought and seized 10 pieces of sachets containing shabu worth P 3,000.

The confiscated drugs were forwarded to MPD-Crime Laboratory Office for qualitative and quantitative examination. (Glendel Nazario)

Man shot dead in Parañaque

A 53 year-old man who was drinking with some of his friends near his home died when shot by two unidentified suspects Wednesday night in Parañaque City.

The victim who suffered three gunshot wounds was identified as Renato Ranabal, a resident of Lim Compound, Quirino Avenue, Parañaque City. He was already dead when brought to the Philippine General Hospital.

Police record showed that the victim was arrested before for his illegal drugs activity.

According to PO1 Mac Kevin Macailing of the Parañaque City police Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch, the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m.

Macaliling said that the victim was reportedly drinking on the street with some of his friends when approached by two men who shot him three times.

The suspects immediately fled on board their motorcycle. (Jean Fernando)
