Two persons, die in fire in Manila

Two individuals, including a three-year-old child died, after a fire hit a residential area in Tondo, Manila Wednesday afternoon.

Manila Fire Marshall Supt. Antonio Razal Jr., identified the victims as one Venus Liqid, around 30 to 35 years old, and three-year-old Althea Michelline Mae Diestro.

Initial investigation showed that the blaze started at the second floor level of the house owned by a certain Herminia Hipolito along Varona Street around 3:11 p.m.

The fire spread to adjacent houses made of light materials, until it was declared out at about 5:41 p.m.

At least 14 families lost their homes during the incident.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the conflagration as well as the total cost of damage.

Vendor gunned down in Caloocan

A vendor who was walking with his friends was gunned down by men riding a motorcycle in Caloocan City Wednesday night.

Police Chief Inspector Ronald Cayago, Police Community Precinct 3 commander, identified the slain vendor as Joselito Rosco, 49, of Phase 3 Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Rosco was walking with his friends along Phase 4, Bagong Silang around 8 p.m. when motorcycle riding men appeared and shot Rosco on his head.

Rosco was rushed to Dr. Jose Rodriguez Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The gunmen then sped off.

Barangay watchman shot dead in Manila

A former barangay watchman who previously surrendered under Oplan Tokhang was shot dead by four unidentified persons on board two motorcycles in Pandacan, Manila Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Ronnie Gimoro, 40, mechanic, of Zamora Street in the area.

Investigation showed that Gimoro was having a drinking spree with a friend after they attended a birthday party along West Zamora Street when the suspects arrived and shot the victim about 11:50 a.m.

A closed circuit television (CCTV) footage also showed that Gimoro’s companion managed to escape unharmed.

The victim’s sister Grace, admitted that his brother surrendered when Oplan Tokhang was launched because he wanted to change his ways.

Man shot dead in QC

A dinner with friends turned into a tragic night after a man was repeatedly shot to death by an unknown gunman in Quezon City Wednesday.

Authorities from the Masambong Police Station identified the victim as Joseph Gutierrez, a 51-year old businessman.

Gutierrez was with his friends Jeanette Mendoza and Francis Diaz onboard his black Mercedes Benz and was parking in front of an establishment along West Avenue, Barangay Nayong Kaunlaran around 6:10 p.m. to have dinner at Dad’s Restaurant adjacent the parking area.

However, according to Mendoza, when she alighted the car, a gun-wielding man wearing striped shirt and cap suddenly appeared and repeatedly shot Gutierrez who was still sitting in the driver’s seat.

The gunman then fled the scene casually while Mendoza and Diaz rushed the victim to the hospital. He was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
