CABANATUAN City — Two armed encounters in separate buy-bust operations in Nueva Ecija on Monday resulted in the death of two suspected drug traffickers, police said yesterday.
In this city, Supt. Ponciano P. Zafra said Chester Matias was shot and killed after he tried to fight it off with undercover anti-drug operatives during a buy-bust operation at 11:20 p.m.
Zafra said the encounter with the suspect transpired in a vacant lot of Avida Residence in Bgy. Sta. Arcadia shortly after the drug deal.
Matias allegedly drew out a short firearm and shot the operatives but missed, triggering a firefight which resulted in his instataneous death.
Zafra described Matias as number six in the city’s list of motorcycle-riding suspects, who was also involved in the series of motorcycle thefts and robbery incidents occurring in the city.
In Sto. Domingo town, another suspected drug pusher, whose name was not immediately available as of press time, was killed by operating lawmen after a buy-bust operation resulted in a brief encounter at 5 p.m., said Chief Insp. Joel dela Cruz, acting chief of police.
