The threat of strong winds and rains from Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) did not deter the Quezon City police from carrying out antidrug and anticriminality operations over the weekend, leaving three men dead.
A report to Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., Quezon City Police District director, said that Batasan station policemen conducted a buy-bust against two alleged drug peddlers in Payatas around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The police claimed the two still unidentified suspects fired at their operatives in Group 9, Payatas B, triggering a shootout.
One of them was identified only as “Payat,” a man of small build, fair complexion who had the names “Mike” and “Bernard” tattooed on his chest and back. Seized from him were six sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth), as well as a .38-caliber handgun.
On the other hand, “Barok”—who was described as being of medium build and with fair complexion—yielded six sachets of suspected shabu and a “homemade” .38-caliber revolver.
Around five hours later, policemen killed Ronald Monterosa during an anticriminality operation in San Roque 2, Barangay Bagong Pag-asa around 5 a.m.
Monterosa was allegedly playing “video karera” on Rivera Street, along with other residents. Police said he drew a gun and fired at them when they tried to arrest him.
