Baby boy raped, stabbed to death by uncle
A drug suspect was arrested by police after he allegedly raped and stabbed to death his two-and-a-half-year-old nephew and left his body stuffed in a bag at a parking area in Muntinlupa City Saturday, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported.
SPD director, Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr. identified the suspect as Edgardo Mendoza, 29, the uncle of Alexander Ethan Mendoza, two-and-a-half years old, of Villa Dona Donata, Alabang, Muntinlupa.
Initial investigation revealed that security guard Leonil Ledesma discovered an abandoned bag at the JVT Parking, South Station Terminal in Alabang around 2:55 p.m.
Due to the stench coming from the bag, he immediately called the police to open it until they found the lifeless body of baby Alexander wrapped in white linen. Police said the boy sustained multiple stab wounds.
Minutes later, Edgardo came to the area and claimed he was with the baby boy for a stroll when he lost him. Edgardo claimed he entrusted his nephew to a stranger woman when he went to the toilet but couldn’t find them afterwards.
However, police became suspicious when they noticed Edgardo’s pants tainted with blood stains. The police then arrested Edgardo and after some interrogation, he admitted to killing his nephew.
Apolinario said Edgardo’s sister, the mother of baby Alexander, and the victim’s grandmother (names not revealed by police) came to the police station and confirmed the identities of the victim and suspect.
Apolinario added that baby Alexander’s mother confirmed Edgardo used to be a drug user. The suspect also has a history of mental illness, according to baby Alexander’s mother, although police have yet to verify whether it was due to drug abuse.
“Suspect in the past attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself and drinking poison but was prevented by his sister (baby Alexander’s mother),” Apolinario bared.
Apolinario said that Edgardo was brought to Muntinlupa police headquarters and was charged with murder. (Martin Sadongdong)

9 ‘druggies’ fall in police ops
Nine drug suspects were arrested in separate police operations in Makati and Parañaque cities, south of Metro Manila, Saturday night, the Southern Police District (SPD) said.
Senior Police Officer 2 Alejandro Devalid, case investigator, said Nestor Idios, 50; Ricarte Cabay Jr., 29; San Silverio, 31; and Johna Viene Magaro, 23, were arrested in a buy-bust operation along 20th Ave., Brgy. East Rembo, Makati around 6:40 p.m.
Elements of Makati police’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) conducted the buy-bust in front of Idios’ house. When Idios handed out the P500 shabu to a police poseur-buyer, other anti-narcotics agents arrested him.
Police seized four plastic sachets with suspected shabu, two sachets with traces of illegal drugs, two aluminum foil strips with drugs and an improvised tooter from the suspects.
Idios was charged with selling and his companions with possession of illegal drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Earlier, patrolling lawmen from Barangay Cembo Police Community Precinct (PCP) still in Makati apprehended Windhel Dichon, 31; John Jess Cotejar, 23; and James Santos, 26, for drinking in front of Guadalupe Bliss building particularly near the riverside, a public place.
The suspects were accosted around 4:30 p.m. by police since drinking in public places is prohibited in Makati.
When the policemen frisked the suspects, Dichon and Cotejar yielded a sachet of suspected shabu each while Santos had a sachet of suspected marijuana.
Lastly, operatives of Parañaque Police Community Precinct (PCP)-4 led by Chief Inspector Elizaldy Matulac said Marlo Copia, 27; and Joyfren Gofredo, 23, were arrested around 4:30 p.m. through a tip from an informant, saying there was an on-going illegal drug transaction along Valley 6, Barangay San Isidro.
Police said Copia was caught red handed selling a sachet of suspected shabu worth P200 to Gofredo.
However, the police managed to stop the deal when they nabbed the suspects and brought them to Parañaque police headquarters.
