GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Anti-drug agents on Wednesday raided a vast marijuana plantation in Malungon, Sarangani which resulted in the killing of a suspected marijuana cultivator and the arrest and his cohort.

Naravy Ducquiatan, regional chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency identified the slain suspect as Mel Enoc, who reportedly shot it out with members of the raiding team composed of PDEA agents and police officers.

Ducquiatan said the PDEA agents were able to uproot some 10,000 fully grown marijuana plants and seized at least 5 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated value of P3 million.

PDEA spokesperson Kath Abad said the raiding team also recovered a Garand rifle.

She said PDEA operatives arrested Enoc’s cohort identified as Antonio Mandoan.

PDEA said the slain and arrested suspects arenotorious marijuana cultivators who supply marijuana leaves to clients in South Cotabato, Sarangani and Davao del Sur.

The raiding team trekked for hours before reaching the remote plantation located in the boundary of Sarangani, South Cotabato and Davao del Sur, which is a known lair of armed bandits and communist rebels.

Malungon Mayor Tessa Constantino commended the raiding team for the successful operation.

She said the local government has been closely coordinating with the PDEA and police in the eradication campaign of marijuana plantation in some mountaenous villages of the municipality.
