Jody Magallanes, 40, and assigned at the fire station in Mahaplag town, Leyte, allegedly tried to engage members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, personnel of the anti-drug unit of the Southern Leyte provincial police office, and the local police in Barangay Rizal during a buy-bust operation at about 11:20 a.m.

Based on the regional police office report in Palo town, Leyte, a police officer acting as a poseur-buyer bought from Magallanes a sachet of suspected shabu with a street value of P70,000.

When the suspect recognized that he was transacting with a police officer, he immediately drew his caliber 45 pistol, prompting law enforcers to fire back.

He was brought to the Sogod District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
