Police shot dead two suspected drug pushers in separate buy-bust operations in Quezon and Batangas provinces, the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) disclosed on Friday.

Reports reaching Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, regional director of the PNP PRO-4A, identified the slain suspects as Jerry Casimiro alias Otoy, about 39 to 40 years old; and one alias Lando.

Casimiro died after he allegedly resisted arrest and fired at elements of Quezon Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) and Lucena City Police Station (CPS) in a buy-bust operation along Feeder Road, Barangay Ilayang Dupay, Lucena, Quezon.

The operation happened around 5:30 a.m. today near the Southern Luzon University, Lucena police said.

Police said Casimiro apparently sensed that he was transacting with a police poseur-buyer so he tried to run away and fired shots at the pursuing lawmen.

A brief chase ensued before Casimiro was cornered along an alley near the university but he refused to surrender and traded shots with police. After the chase, Casimiro ended up dead.

“[Casimiro] was transacting on the delivery of shabu through a cellphone with the asset of PDEU,” the police report said.

Police recovered from Casimiro a caliber .38 revolver loaded with four bullets, two spent shells, eight sachets containing suspected shabu, a cellphone and one P1,000 bill.

Police will subject the cellphone to an examination to determine if he has other cohorts.

Meanwhile, Lando was gunned down by police when he also allegedly resisted arrest in a buy-bust operation at Barangay Aya, San Jose, Batangas around 11 p.m. yesterday..

Police Officer 3 Edwin Vivas, one of the operating troops of San Jose Municipal Police Station (MPS), said Lando suddenly ran away while transacting with an undercover agent.

Lando then started firing shots at the pursuing lawmen but they retaliated and hit him in the body multiple times, which killed him instantly, police said in their report.

Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol and a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu from Lando.
