2 drug suspects killed in buy-bust ops in Caloocan

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in running gun battles during separate buy-bust operations in Caloocan City Saturday.

Police identified the slain drug suspects as Alex Ilagan, 34, jobless, and Lawrence Esteves, 44, jobless, both residents of Caloocan City.

Sr. Inspector Cecilio Tomas Jr., newly-installed chief of the city’s drug enforcement unit, said Ilagan and Esteves were included in the barangay drug watchlist.

The team led by Tomas first conducted a buy-bust operation against Ilagan after confirming his illegal involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Ilagan arrived at the meeting place along Abe Road 2 in Barangay 73 around 1:30 p.m.

However, during the transaction, Ilagan ran way after sensing the sting.

The policemen chased Ilagan who reportedly fired shots, prompting Tomas and PO1 Jervie Castro to returned fire.

Ilagan, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body, was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center, where he succumbed a day after.

A .38 caliber revolver with amnunition, six empty shells, and four heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shaby were recovered from the scene.

Around 8 p.m., the same team together with the city’s special operation unit launched another buy-bust against Esteves and his 20-year-old son identified as John Paulo Macaventa.

However, the suspects sensed that they were transacting with an undercover cop in front f their house in Barangay 74.

Macavente was nabbed while his father was pursued by the authorities after he ran away.

During the chase, Esteves drew his firearm and fired shots, but missed.

PO1 Jomar Regacho then retaliated, hitting the suspect in the stomach.

Esteves expired before reaching Caloocan City Medical Center.

Authorities recovered from the scene were a. 38 caliber revolver with ammunition, six empty shells, five heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, and a sachet of suspected marijuana leaves.

In an interview, Tomas said Esteves’ son admitted that selling illegal drugs is their way of living.

Esteves had murder and drug cases, police said.

On May 24, the Caloocan City police’s drug enforcement unit has claimed its first fatality, five months after President Duterte ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to return to the war on drugs.

It can be recalled that the Caloocan City police was placed in a hot water last year after the controversial death of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos. The cops claimed he fought back during a sting but witnesses say otherwise. (Kate Javier)

Wanted woman arrested

The top seven most wanted person of the Manila Police District-Sta. Ana Police Station (MPD-PS6) was arrested Saturday during a police operation in Makati City, police said.

The suspect, identified as Ivy Flores, 32, of 2554 Isabel St., Sta. Ana, Manila was arrested Saturday afternoon by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Hon. Judge Benjamin Pozon of the Regional Trial Court Branch 139.

Upon spotting the suspect along Sandico St., Makati City at around 5:20 p.m., elements of MPD-PS6 immediately approached Flores and subsequently arrested her.

Flores is currently detained at PS-6 without bail, as indicated in her arrest warrant.

Flores, reportedly wanted for a case of Theft, was arrested in 2016 after allegedly stealing two flat screen televisions inside an apartelle in Makati City. (Hans Amancio)
